Even though Raul Jimenez had a decent start of season for Wolverhampton Wanderers, there’s something he’s probably not proud of.
The striker first missed a penalty in a preseason game against Bochum, and now, did it again when Mexico played Uruguay at the weekend.
The Mexican media claims that these were the only two penalties he’s missed in his entire career, and that’s why it’s a big story for them.
Raul Jimenez spoke to journalists about the game against Uruguay, and claimed that even though things haven’t worked great, he won’t change the way he takes his penalties.
“In the end we all fail and now I raise my head thinking what I did wrong and in the end I will never give up because this does not end here, and I will continue to kick the ball on penalties,” (via NNC).
Interestingly, Jimenez had already scored from the penalty spot in the match against Uruguay. The problem is that goalkeeper Fernando Muslera was smart enough to figure out the way the striker takes them, always waiting for the keeper to pick a side first.
“It has given me results for a long time, I can fail or put them in, but I hope to continue like that and that will not change, it won’t stop, like I said,” claimed Jimenez.
As covered by us earlier today, Jimenez left the Mexican squad with a ‘small muscular discomfort’, and has returned to Wolverhampton to make his recovery. It’s still not clear if he’ll be fit to play at the weekend.
