Donyell Malen has insisted he’s not concerned about a slow start to life at Aston Villa, as he know he’ll “always come back to the top”.
Soccer News have an interview with Malen today as he heads back to the international set up with the Netherlands.
He goes into this international break after a good week in which he got his first two goals of the season in Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over Burnley.
The Dutchman has had a difficult time since joining Aston Villa in the January transfer window. Villa brought him in that month as part of several signings to boost their push for the Champions League.
He was unable to make much of an impact, though, with three goals in 17 games as others shined instead.
He’s started this season in similarly slow form, failing to score in any of his first nine appearances.
He was handed just his second start of the season in the Premier League against Burnley, though, and rewarded Unai Emery with two goals playing alongside Ollie Watkins in a front two.
That was obviously a great moment for him, but the Aston Villa striker insists he’s knew he’d get back to the top eventually.
“It wasn’t always easy in a new environment, a new league, and with a new manager,” he said.
“But that’s part of it. I have to not think too much about everything and focus on myself and the right things. Ultimately, I know I’ll always come back to the top.
“An athlete’s career doesn’t always go from zero to one hundred. Sometimes you take a step back, but that happens to everyone.”
