Igor Paixão’s move to Marseille is dying out as Feyenoord want a record fee, which could also be turning Leeds United away.

That’s according to RTV Rijnmond, who cover the situation around the Brazilian today, via 1908.nl.

They explain that after reports in France yesterday that Marseille’s talks for Paixão were stalling, it now appears they are collapsing completely.

Feyenoord had been in talks with the French side but there was no definitive outcome as the two clubs can’t reach a financial agreement for the player.

The Dutch side want Marseille to break Santiago Gimenez’s record transfer of €35m to buy out Paixão’s contract, which runs until 2029. The French side are unwilling to go beyond €30m and so have moved on to Juventus’ Timothy Weah instead.

There’s now no significant interest in Paixão from any club, according to RTV Rijnmond. Leeds United have been heavily linked over the last few weeks, and his agent has seemingly been speaking to Yorkshire based media about a move to Elland Road as well.

But RTV Rijnmond fail to mention them completely, so it’s possible Leeds aren’t interested in Paixão at the current asking price rather than not being interested at all.

They would seemingly have a free run at the player now Marseille have gone elsewhere, but what price they’d be willing to pay remains to be seen. Feyenoord certainly aren’t moving and reports in the Netherlands are now very much of the mind that Paixão could be staying with them this summer.

For now, he’s simply focused on returning from a muscle injury, which he’s recovering from back in Brazil and has started travelled for preseason training with the Dutch club.
