A few days ago we covered an article from Italy which was a celebration of Rangers fullback James Tavernier. It was pointed out the player has statistics which put him above his contemporaries throughout European football.
Having a great season for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side, it was explained that Tavernier has better figures than the best two in Serie A. Achraf Hakimi has three goals and four assists for Inter Milan, whilst Theo Hernandez has one goal and four assists for AC Milan.
In comparison, the 29-year-old has scored 16 goals and added 11 assists in all competitions for Rangers this campaign.
Sky Italia suggested transfer attention will arrive from the top leagues around Europe, and a transfer could be possible given Tavernier’s contract expires at the end of the current season.
Not among the top leagues in Europe is Serie B, so therefore it’s eyebrow raising to see claims of interest from there. SerieBNews report Lecce and Salernitana are keen, whilst there’s been ‘no concrete offers’.
Both clubs look well placed for promotion, yet it’s pretty certain they won’t be fighting for trophies should they get to Serie A. On top of that, Tavernier has the opportunity to player in European football for Rangers, so staying with Gerrard’s side seems far more attractive.
