Tottenham defender Cuti Romero is the best number two in the history of Argentinian football and could be a key player for them for the next ten years.
That’s according to former Argentina centre back Sergio Vázquez, speaking to El Grafico, who has hailed the Tottenham man and urged him to potentially join Manchester City.
Romero has been impressive for Tottenham since joining them from Atalanta in 2021, initially joining on loan before signing on a permanent basis the following year for €52m.
He arrived in England after being named the best defender in Italy thanks to his performances in Bergamo, and has largely lived up to that status ever since.
Romero has certainly been a star on the international stage, racking up 31 appearances for Argentina to date and winning the Copa America in 2021 and then the World Cup in 2022.
At 26-years-old he appears to be hitting the peak of his career, with the arrival of Micky van de Ven at Tottenham last year certainly helping to get the best out of him this season too.
Vázquez, though, would like to see him move elsewhere at some point, and would be keen on him playing under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
“He is the best number 2 in history of Argentine football,” he told La Oral Deportiva.
“We are in the presence of someone who can come out playing, who can burst it, who has presence and who if he has to hit, he hits you. At his age, he is a kid who gives you confidence when the ball comes to him.
“I would like to see him at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
“We found a central duo for the next ten years. Both (Lisandro) Martínez and Cuti have oriented controls that allow them to reduce the time when giving a pass.”
