Brighton fullback Martín Montoya has given a short interview to Italian website Tutto Mercato Web this Wednesday.
Now even though the 28-year-old didn’t say a lot, the outlet still managed to turn the conversation into a transfer rumour, since they’ve asked him about the Serie A.
The player started talking recalling his time at Inter Milan: “I had left Barcelona for the first time, I was just 24 years old and it was not easy to settle myself far from home. In any case, I am really grateful to those who believed in me at Inter. It went how it went, but it was an honour and a real pleasure to get to know a country and a league as evocative as Italy and the Serie A”.
Then he was asked if he would be keen on returning to Italy: “Why not? In football, you know, anything is possible. I’d go back to Italy”.
After almost 10 years at Barcelona, where he won every possible trophy, Montoya joined Inter in the summer of 2015 on a loan deal.
Just like he said, things didn’t go well, and he returned after only six months, having spent the second part of that season on a new loan at Real Betis. Then he left Barça permanently, staying two years at Valencia, until joining Brighton on a €7m deal in 2018.
Montoya has missed only one game in the Premier League this season, and has a contract until 2023. That would be a good reason for the Seagulls to hold onto him, although it seems he wouldn’t mind having a second chance in Serie A in the future.
