While Antonio Conte continues to be revered in Italy for his work at Juventus and Inter, the Tottenham manager is no longer the only London based manager on people’s lips.
That’s because Mikel Arteta’s work at Arsenal has earned him a lot of plaudits this season, as the Gunners sit top of the Premier League table.
There was a time, at the beginning of last season, when the Spaniard was facing a bad situation, but perseverance by the club’s board and trust in the manager’s process have allowed him to turn the situation around.
Tottenham, in the meantime, despite pipping Arsenal to that Champions League spot last year, are struggling a bit more under Conte, as they sit fifth, 11 points behind the Gunners despite having played two more games.
That’s why, when asked if he would want the Spurs manager or Simone Inzaghi to be in charge of his Inter, he surprised Calciomercato with his answer.
He said: “They are two different managers: the first is all about harmony and integration, while the other is a general alone in command. But for the future of Inter, I have a philosophy full of poetry that would take me back to Mourinho, and the other where I would like to see my team playing the best football in the world, and therefore I’d choose Arteta from Arsenal.”
That’s quite the compliment, and it shows exactly how far the Arsenal manager has come over the past two years.
As for Conte, his status in Italy certainly remains intact, and it will be interesting to see whether he does continue at Tottenham beyond the current season.
