Celtic are in the picture to bring Chivas de Guadalajara’s Armando González to Celtic Park. Martin O’Neill’s side would face competition from West Ham United, Barcelona and others to secure his services.

On February 21st, Sport Witness covered claims from Mexico of Celtic, West Ham and Barcelona tussling to sign the 23-year-old.

On March 10th, we relayed news that O’Neill’s side face battle with Borussia Dortmund for his signature in the summer.

Later that month, Sport Witness covered claims backing up West Ham’s interest. The same source also stated Nuno Espírito Santo’s side face competition from Barcelona and BVB.

Boost for West Ham, Celtic and Barca

Monday’s edition of Sport has an interview with Armando González and he was asked about the recent transfer rumours.

The newspaper makes no mention of West Ham United, Celtic or any other club, and only quiz him about the latest links of European clubs.

Responding to that, he said: “No, I try to focus on my day-to-day life. If it happens, I’d be very grateful; if not, I’ll work to make it happen.

“My father and my agents are very cautious about that and prefer not to fill my head with things, so I don’t get distracted, and I’m very grateful for that.”

When asked whether he’s thinking of moving to Europe, González explained: “Yes, I would try, because it’s a dream I have. But if it doesn’t happen, it’s no big deal; I’ll keep working.

“And if it does happen, I’ll be very grateful. It all depends on staying focused on the day-to-day.”

The Mexico international has no league preferences in Europe.

On this subject, he added: “I like them all. They’re leagues with a very high level where I’d like to play. It’s a dream I’ve had since I was a child: to play in Europe and keep growing.”
