Nick Woltemade spent one season at VfB Stuttgart and left them for Newcastle United on August 30th.
The Germany international was pursued by Bayern Munich throughout the summer. Stuttgart didn’t make it easy for the Bundesliga winners, who eventually gave up on signing him.
Newcastle United made a late approach for the striker after missing out on other targets and were successful. Woltemade has now told Bild that he was shocked by his move to England.
At the weekend, the 23-year-old scored a brace in the Magpies’ 2-2 league draw against Chelsea. After the match at St James’ Park, Bild caught up with the frontman, who was obviously pleased with his performance.
“I was in a great position twice and put the ball away well both times. Overall, it was a good game for me, and I want to build on that. I’m very happy with two goals like that,” he said.
The German has scored nine goals and contributed two assists from 23 matches for Eddie Howe’s side. Last week, the player explained he’s enjoying life at the Tyneside club, where he has a contract until 2031.
Newcastle United player again shares happiness over transfer
The Newcastle United summer signing was asked whether he sees himself in England in five years.
“Good question. If someone had told me six months ago that I’d be in Newcastle now, I wouldn’t have believed it myself. That’s why I’m happy to be surprised,” Woltemade explained.
Woltemade shares a flat with his friend, Silas Steinwedel, just outside Newcastle. He explained his daily routine at the Premier League side is different when compared with Stuttgart.
“Because we play every three days, we have very few training sessions. It feels like we only train on the pitch twice a week. Otherwise, the schedule consists of exercises in the weight room or video training,” he added.
