Barcelona are regretting their decision to spend €55m to sign Ferran Torres from Manchester City in January last year, with the deal yet to prove worth it.

That’s according to the journalists of El Bar de Sique, who have been discussing the move for the forward in light of claims that Barcelona could have signed Dusan Vlahovic for €12m earlier in his career.

Reports in Spain this week have claimed that Vlahovic was made available to Barcelona five years ago for a fee of €12m, but the deal was rejected because he was not considered good enough.

That’s a decision which has come back to haunt them as the player now shines for Juventus and Barcelona have spent considerably more on strikers to strengthen their forward line.

One of those is Ferran Torres, who arrived from Manchester City in a €55m deal in January 2022 but has never been able to live up to that figure.

He is very much considered one of their poorer signings in recent years, particularly when they could have had Vlahovic for a considerably lower fee.

Indeed, his value had dropped since that move from Manchester City and the panel admit they wouldn’t even pay half of what Barcelona once stumped up.

“It was done in a moment of desperation because I think Barcelona were seventh in the league, it was the winter market and if they didn’t get into the Champions League, it was an absolute disaster,” they said.

“For that kind of transfer, you assume an extra price, I understand that. We take it for granted.  He was at Manchester City, I’m sure they were dancing.

“They went out to dance in the square (when that deal was done). If you had to buy him now, would you pay €55m? Surely not.

“Right now, I wouldn’t even pay €20m for him. In the last few games, he has not convinced me of anything.”
