Fabian Schar has been a reliable part of Newcastle United’s furniture for a long time now.

He has witnessed the club’s ups and downs in recent years and has provided consistency, even during difficult periods.

Now 32-years-of-age, Schar’s current deal at Newcastle runs out at the end of the season and there is uncertainty about his future.

The defender spoke to BlueSport in Switzerland about his plans and he revealed that he would ‘love’ to stay at St James’ Park.

He said, as relayed by Switzerland’s 4-4-2: “I feel really comfortable at Newcastle, I’ve been playing for years and I have a coach who relies on me. Everything is right for me. I would love to stay. The club and the coach know what they have in me,”

He also stated that the Magpies have always wanted to keep him at the club over the past few seasons, and that has meant talks between Newcastle United and his representatives have never been too difficult.

“Basically, things have always gone relatively quickly in recent years. The club wanted to keep me, I wanted to stay. That’s why it was never a big deal.”

The veteran also went on to speak about how he would love to return to Basel at some point in the future, but also made it clear that the move will not happen now.

Schar is a leader at Newcastle United and it would be a surprise if a new deal can’t be agreed between his camp and the Premier League club.

It’s certainly what the player wants.
