If one transfer didn’t surprise anyone at Manchester United this season, it was the exit of Éric Bailly.
The defender never seemed to be a part of Erik ten Hag’s plans at Old Trafford, especially after the arrival of Lisandro Martinez, which even put Harry Maguire on the bench.
Instead, the Manchester United centre-back was sent on loan to Marseille, who have an option to make the move permanent next season if all goes well.
That means Bailly might have played his final game for the Red Devils, and, during his presentation as a new OM player on Monday, suggested that could certainly be the case.
He said, relayed by La Provence: “My time at Manchester United was very good. I had the chance to win trophies. They progressed in various areas and I wish them good luck.”
The Ivory Coast international also revealed he had a conversation with Didier Drogba after he signed for Marseille, who congratulated him for the move.
It is highly unlikely that Bailly will have as much of an impact at Marseille as his compatriot, but the Manchester United loanee has certainly started his new spell on a good note, making two appearances so far, during which the Ligue 1 side kept two clean sheets.
