Julio Enciso

Julio Enciso has admitted he wasn’t happy at Brighton & Hove Albion, as he now enjoys life in France.

Le Figaro cover comments from the 22-year-old today as he looks to get his career back on track at Strasbourg.

The midfielder joined the French club for €9.5m last summer, bringing an end to a three-year stay with the Seagulls after joining them for €11.6m in 2022.

Enciso would only make 57 appearances in total for the club in total. That was largely due to injuries holding him back.

A meniscus tear in 2023 saw him spend 38 games out of action for club and country, and 184 days on the treatment table.

Brighton to Strasbourg

A loan period at Ipswich Town in the second half of last season was also pulled up short by injuries as well. That frustration led to his move to France this summer, where he’s been impressing this season.

He’s already made 24 appearance for Strasbourg this season, starting 15 of their 18 games in Ligue 1 so far. He’s justified that status too, with eight goals and three assists in 24 games in all competitions so far.

The Paraguayan is also the joint top goalscorer in the French cup, with five goals to date. Le Figaro describe him as the main architect of their impressive run in the competition to date.

Becoming a star under O’Neil

He is clearly enjoying himself with Gary O’Neil’s side. The former Wolves boss employs him as the ‘playmaker’ in the middle of the pitch.

Enciso is loving the support he’s getting, admitting he was never happy at Brighton in recent years.

“I admit I went through a very difficult period,” he said.

“I wasn’t happy at Brighton. But here I have the support of my teammates, my coach, and I’m also doing a lot of personal work.”
