Matheus Cunha has looked back on his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers with gratitude, describing the club as a key part of his journey before joining Manchester United.
Speaking to Globo Esporte, the Brazilian forward recalled how Wolves helped him rediscover confidence after missing out on the 2022 World Cup.
“I was very happy at Wolves,” Cunha said. “That moment came right after I didn’t go to the World Cup, and the club was exactly what I needed to remind myself of how far I had come. They were so kind to me. Helping as much as I could was very important, and they helped me too. Among records and goals, what made me proudest was giving back the love I received.”
The 26-year-old joined Wolves from Atlético Madrid in 2023, and quickly became a fan favourite for his work rate and energy. His 15-goal campaign last season set a new mark for Brazilians in a single Premier League season, a record he now shares with Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Martinelli.
Cunha said that the environment at Molineux played a huge role in his recovery after one of the toughest moments of his career. “It was exactly what I needed,” he explained. “The club’s affection reminded me how big I could be.”
The forward’s performances helped secure his move to Manchester United, but he made clear that his affection for Wolves remains strong. “It was a place that gave me everything I needed to get back to myself,” he said. “The connection with the fans was special.”
Now trying to shine for Manchester United and the Brazilian national team, Cunha often refers to his time at Wolves as a turning point. One that brought both professional growth and emotional balance.
