Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunhas has admitted he was left feeling proud after reading recent comments from Brazil manager Dorival Junior about him.

Infobae cover comments from the forward today made to the Brazilian FA’s website today as he looks to continue his fine form into the international break.

Cunha has been the star of the show for Wolves this season, with 13 goals and four assists in 26 Premier League games almost singlehandedly carrying them to safety.

Those numbers and his growing status in England ha snot gone unnoticed by the Selecao, who have called him up for their clashes against Colombia and Argentina this month.

It’s a return to the set up that Cunha has been absent from since 2023, with his last appearances coming in a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in October that year. He had previously been out of the squad for a year after a 27-minute appearance in a friendly against Ghana in 2022.

It’s been a tricky road on the international stage for the Wolves star, who made his debut in 2021 and has 11 appearances to date, albeit with just 262 minutes under his belt.

Now he’s back in and being praised by the current management, though, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“I was proud of his words,” he said.

“Being praised by the coach makes you happier and more confident. I’m going to try to live up to all those expectations and praise on the field while wearing the national team jersey.

“I’m happy to be returning to the national team at a time when I’m showing great happiness and playing very well for my club.”
