Following the quotes released last week, ESPN Brasil finally aired their interview with Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani at the weekend.

It turns out the 35-year-old had a lot to say about this future, confirming that Brazilian clubs have been in touch with his brother to take him to South America this summer.

“My brother commented a little about different opportunities and situations currently presented. And among them, the possibility of playing in Brazil. I wouldn’t specifically mention a team, but we received contacts from Brazil for next year to be there, next season,” Cavani told ESPN Brasil.

Cavani pointed out that when choosing where to play next season, he’ll look for a place where he can get minutes, something he feels he could not get at Old Trafford this year.

“Yes, there was interest from Brazil, not only now, but before too. But let’s see what happens, because even I don’t know, I just want to find a place where I can play and get back to the rhythm, that’s what I want most for my national team.”

Cavani also claimed it’s not only Brazilian clubs who’d like to take him back to South America. Following the strong links with Boca Juniors, he confirms that joining the Buenos Aires side would be appealing to him.

“As I mentioned earlier, there was a contact with Román (Riquelme). He even wrote to me, we communicated. These are things that happen in the football environment, among colleagues. And, as I mentioned, it’s a great club in South America. How, as a football player, could I say that I wouldn’t want to play for a team like Boca one day? It’s like I said to you, how can I say that I wouldn’t like to play in big clubs, like some in Brazil?”

Even though Cavani is not expected to sign an extension for the contract with Manchester United which expires this summer, the striker actually mentioned this possibility, claiming the Red Devils would have his priority in case there are talks for a new deal. That was when he was asked if he’s close to returning to South America.

“I wouldn’t say close, because these are situations that arise, they talk to my brother. But, out of respect for the club I’m in, what I know is that they’d have my preference here because they gave me the opportunity to be part of this team. The season will end and then we’ll see.

“We’ll see what happens later on. I’m in a situation where, honestly, I don’t know what will happen next year. I want to finish my season here, I want to finish playing, giving my best in this club that gave me the opportunity, and I will prioritise when we talk. I want to play football, I want to have fun, I want to compete. And we’ll see what happens.”
