Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor has joked he wants to see Flamengo’s Wesley join the Eagles at some point.
That’s according to ESPN Brazil, who cover comments from Textor today after Botafogo’s clash with Palmeiras last night.
The American was in Brazil to watch his team, Botafogo, take on Palmeiras in the Brasileirão Série A, with the away side eventually running out a 4-3 winners courtesy of a 99th minute goal from Murilo Cerqueira.
ESPN explain that ahead of the game, Textor spoke to them exclusively about recent refereeing controversies against the championship leaders and then took the opportunity to praise Flamengo’s Wesley.
”I like Wesley, he’s a good boy, I want him at Crystal Palace,” they say he ‘joked’ about the 24-year-old left winger, who has four goals and one assist in 25 games this season and 13 goals and 15 assists in 124 games in total for the Brazilian club.
Whether those are the kind of numbers that would convince Crystal Palace to make a move to bring him to England is up for debate.
On the face of it the answer would presumably be no, but the Eagles have shown with the €20m deal to sign Matheus França in the summer that they will explore the Brazilian market If they think it appropriate.
Wesley may be a name to keep an eye on moving forwards, then, with Textor clearly a fan, even if he was just joking on this occasion.
