Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Julio Enciso has revealed his big aim in life is to be the number 10 for Paraguay, and replace Newcastle United’s Miguel Almirón in the process.
18-year-old Enciso is currently battling to establish himself at Brighton following an €11.6m move from Libertad in the summer transfer window.
He’s already made his Premier League debut, with Roberto de Zerbi handing him a 25 minute appearance in the 4-1 win over Chelsea over the weekend.
That showed the Italian boss has big confidence in the youngster, who is likely to earn more minutes for Brighton between now and the end of the season.
That is sure to only further help his cause for Paraguay, for whom he has already made eight appearances after making his debut aged just 17 back in June last year.
He’s since become a regular feature for them, featuring alongside their current star man, Newcastle United’s Miguel Almirón.
The Brighton youngster has lofty ambitions, though, and admits his aim is to replace the Newcastle forward sooner rather than later.
“I want to be the 10 of the national team,” he told Versus.
“I hope it can be given to me in the future, because knowing that many important players passed with that number who are idols of my parents, uncles and grandparents like Salvador Cabañas, Roberto “Toro” Acuña.
“Now it belongs to Miguel Almirón, another great player, but it is what I want the most as every Paraguayan.”
