Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero has been included in Argentina’s squad for the World Cup.
The centre-back has featured 13 times in all competitions this term and his appearances for the north London club were limited due to two injuries.
An abductor problem forced the 24-year-old to miss three league matches for Tottenham in August.
He last made an appearance for Spurs in their 1-1 draw against Sporting in the Champions League tie in October. Since then, the defender has missed the Premier League side’s fixtures due to a hamstring injury. Romero also missed Argentina’s latest friendly win over the UAE on November 16th.
After the tie, Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni had doubts about a few players and their fitness. AS relayed that on Thursday and stated the defender’s name was on the list. Romero has now dismissed this report and confirmed his availability for selection.
Friday’s AS have published an interview with the Spurs defender, and they asked whether this is the ‘best moment of his career’. When responding to this, Romero talked about the mixed season he has had with the English club and provided an update on his fitness.
“I’m surely having a nice time. This season maybe I had ups and downs in terms of injuries, when I was at my best, I got injured. I came back and had the misfortune of suffering a small tear from which, luckily, I have now recovered. But yes, I think it’s a good time I’m living,” he said.
