On Wednesday, AC Milan announced the signing of Marco Pellegrino, a young defender from Argentina whom they signed from Platense.
Soon after, the player spoke to his club’s media channel, Milan TV, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, where he was asked about his idols, which is when he mentioned a Tottenham player: Cristian Romero.
This perhaps isn’t surprising since they are both from Argentina, and the defender did make a good name for himself in Italy before moving to Spurs.
Romero was initially brought in on loan from Atalanta before the move was made permanent by Tottenham a year later for around €50m.
While he has impressed at Spurs since his arrival, there have been a few ups and downs along the way, with the highest point of his time at the London club coming at international level when he lifted the World Cup in Qatar last year.
This is likely the kind of feat from the Tottenham player that impressed 21-year-old Pellegrino, who said: “My idol is Sergio Ramos, and nowadays I really like El Cuti Romero. For me, he’s a complete defender, and I try and follow him.”
