Tottenham striker Alejo Veliz has revealed he told his agent he needed to jump at the chance to join Sevilla on loan until the end of the season.
The striker has been speaking at his revealing yesterday, with his comments covered by Diario de Sevilla.
He joined the Spanish side on loan late in the window, looking to get regular playing time away from Tottenham after struggling since joining Ange Postecoglou’s side in the summer.
The highly rated youngster has barely featured for Spurs since his arrival, with the ever-impressive performances of Son Heung-min and the resurgence of Richarlison meaning he’s found game-time limited.
He’s therefore decided to leave temporarily for the second half of the season and try his arm at Spanish football with Sevilla, who were in desperate need of offensive reinforcements having struggled in that department this season.
The Europa League champions find themselves in a difficult position at this moment in time, currently sitting 16th in La Liga and just a point outside of the relegation zone.
To most they wouldn’t be the most attractive of options, but Veliz insists he told his agent they had to jump at the chance to get away from Tottenham.
“I am delighted with the institution, with the president and those who trusted me. I come to contribute the best of me, with goals, which characterizes any forward and give the best to the club,” he said.
“Thank God it happened, and it is an honor to be here. I have been training on the court for two weeks, with a ball, and next week I will join the group to be available to the coach.
“It is a very nice change and a very good experience, and I am very motivated.
“When my representative told me that there was the option of Sevilla, I told him that we should do everything to make it happen. It’s a huge club and I really wanted to come. Thank God I am here, and I am going to enjoy it to the fullest.”
