Marcelo Bielsa is everyone’s inspiration in football management. Pep Guardiola makes players better. Maurizio Sarri? He opens everyone’s eyes.

That is, at least, what Gianfranco Zola, the Italian manager’s second in command at Chelsea, claimed after the 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

Speaking to CalcioNapoli24, the former Blues forward opened up about his new start as a club assistant manager, having previously been in the top job at West Ham, Watford, Cagliari, Al Arabi and Birmingham.

He said: “For me, it’s a completely new world. Maurizio [Sarri] has opened up a whole new world to me. I thought I knew a lot about football, but I was wrong. It’s a great experience. I appreciate the whole staff, and especially him, we work well together.”

The 52-year-old went on to say this was a ‘very good thing’, and that everyone needed to continue to work in the way they have done to continue their great start to the season, winning all but one of their games so far.

The only blip in Chelsea’s form was a 0-0 draw at the weekend against West Ham, which came after a 1-0 win in Greece against PAOK in the Europa League.
