Aston Villa signed Kosta Nedeljković from Red Star Belgrade in January and immediately sent him back on loan until the end of last season.
The right-back arrived at Villa Park in the summer and made three substitute appearances in the league this season.
The 18-year-old has received the first callup from Serbia manager Dragan Stojković for this month’s international break. The Aston Villa player gave a detailed interview to the Serbian FA’s official channel, and he’s eager to make his debut for the national team.
Serbia will host Spain on Thursday and then face Denmark at the weekend in the UEFA Nations League.
The clash against Serbia will be Spain’s first match since winning the Euro 2024 in July. La Roja manager Luis de la Fuente had left out Aston Villa’s Pau Torres in the summer but has included him in the squad for September’s matches.
Nedeljković is well aware of the challenge that lies ahead for the national team, but he insists Serbia have enough qualities to beat Spain tomorrow.
“They convincingly won the European Championship, in general they played the most attractive football in every respect,” he said.
“I played against Dani Olmo, my teammate from Aston Villa Torres has now received a call up… Spain are a big team, but you shouldn’t overestimate everything… Respect, yes, maybe they are the best in the world right now, but if we are compact and do what is asked of us on the field, I think we can beat them.”
It needs to see whether Stojković will hand Nedeljković will first appearance for Serbia against Spain or Denmark.
