Alex Song has praised Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba following his performance against South Africa, and taken some credit for that show.

The 22-year-old is currently away with Cameroon at the AFCON and has been key in his country getting to the quarter finals.

Le Bled Parle have covered comments made by Song after Cameroon’s 2-1 victory over South Africa on Monday. Song praised the Brighton player for his role in the game, but also took some credit after his words of advice.

The 38-year-old went on to say the youngster is somebody with a lot of talent and an important asset for the Indomitable Lions.

“I think my words paid off, because Carlos Baleba’s game was really excellent. When you see Baleba on the pitch, it’s very high-level football. He is a player that we hope to see like this every day and in every game, because when you have a player with enormous potential like Baleba, you are happy,” said the Cameroon legend.

“He delivered a truly great performance, raised his level. I think Cameroon possesses a very, very talented player, and we must continue to encourage him to play the way he did. When he plays at this level, Cameroon gets results.”

Brighton player worked so hard he cramped up

“Well done to the whole team. Everyone worked hard, ran, and gave their all. We had a difficult start to the match, but then we controlled the game. The players put in an incredible amount of energy. We even saw Baleba finish with cramps because he gave so much. Well done to the whole team, it was well deserved.”

Baleba will be vital when his country comes up against Morocco later this week, when they take on the host nation.

However, Brighton will what their star midfielder back as soon as possible as they head into the second half of the season.

Since arriving in 2023 Baleba has impressed for The Seagulls, but this led to interest from the likes of Manchester United.
