Victor Osimhen has hinted he could leave Napoli after this season and Chelsea have been pushed forward as one of the contenders to sign him, with Tottenham Hotspur now being dismissed as contenders.
On Wednesday, journalist Ciro Venerato said the Blues are set to have a ‘duel’ with Arsenal for his signature. Later that day, Gazzetta dello Sport stated the west London club are ready to pay his €130m clause.
La Repubblica, relayed by Mondo Napoli, also state Chelsea are interested in the 25-year-old and the Serie A winners are ‘ready to say goodbye’ to him in the summer.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have made moves to try and sign the former Lille man, if agent Paolo Palermo is to be believed. He’s been speaking to TV Play’s Twitch channel and his comments are relayed by Calciomercato.it.
Palermo claims the Nigeria international’s comments are a ‘prelude to a summer farewell’, and has already ruled out both Arsenal and Tottenham as potential destinations for him.
“I’ve said since he renewed that he was leaving. Extending it for just one year means having already sold him, otherwise they would renew it for four years. They put the card on the player and also on the player’s contract,” he said.
“I think someone has already joined; I think Chelsea. Those who can spend €120-130m are Chelsea, City, United and Liverpool, I don’t think Arsenal. Tottenham could also do it but they have a salary cap of €6-7m, Osimhen already earns €10m.”
There’s belief in the European market that Tottenham still have the Harry Kane money burning a hole in their pocket and are therefore ready to spend big on his replacement.
That probably isn’t the case for Ange Postecoglou’s side when it comes to fees above €100m.
