Everyone was caught by surprise on Wednesday when Chelsea requested loanee Robert Kenedy to return from his loan at Flamengo.
As reported by outlet O Dia, in less than 24 hours the winger was communicated by his club that his spell was over, went to the training centre to say goodbye to teammates and travelled to London.
The newspaper managed to speak to Kenedy at Rio de Janeiro’s airport, and the player confirmed that it wasn’t even Chelsea who told him to get back to the club.
“I was taken by surprise. I found out yesterday (Tuesday) night around 11 pm. Everything was very fast,” Kenedy told O Dia.
“Chelsea had a contract with Flamengo. They asked me to present myself and I’m presenting myself. It was Flamengo that told me. I’m just fulfilling the contract.”
When Chelsea asked for Kenedy’s return, it had been Coluna do Fla who broke the story. Then when featuring an update, they claim that the player ‘didn’t take the news well’.
It’s said his early return to London has left him ‘frustrated’. That’s because he didn’t have good first few months at Flamengo, and now that he had the chance to have a pre-season, where he could match his teammates’ physical form, thus believing he could finally make a difference there.
Coluna do Fla says Flamengo weren’t happy with the situation either, as they got in touch with Kenedy’s entourage and tried to turn things around.
Chelsea, however, were very convinced of his return.
