As Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez was this week interviewed by ESPN Argentina, Manchester City ended up getting mentioned a couple of times.
That’s because the midfielder had been speaking about some players from River Plate, and a couple of them were purchased by Pep Guardiola’s side.
One of them is Claudio Echeverri, whose move to Manchester City is still to be completed. Fernandez was asked what he thought about the move before revealing that he had some contact with the 18-year-old and was impressed with him.
“I was surprised, I spoke to him when he went to train with the national team, he’s a great player, he’s still young. He has a long way to go and I will always wish him the best. I would advise him to be humble as he is, to keep working,” said Fernandez.
Fernandez was also asked about his former River Plate teammate Julian Alvarez, pointing out that the striker has been “scoring goals, assists and showing a lot”.
“It was a dream, maybe we talked about it, of facing each other one day or playing together again, at River it was a pending dream to play in Europe and enjoy the football here.”
The Argentine media continues to hype up Echeverri’s transfer to Manchester City, especially because the midfielder had few appearances for River Plate’s first team before convincing Pep Guardiola’s side of investing on his signing.
It was recently claimed in the local press that the player is a mix of ‘Maradona and Messi’, and although that may be obviously exaggerated, that shows that an exciting young South American talent should be heading to the Etihad Stadium very soon.
