Expected to leave Tottenham last summer when the London club had decided to sign Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli to replace the Frenchman, Hugo Lloris never found his desired exit.
He remained at the Premier League side until the January transfer window, when he eventually found what he was looking for in LAFC, where he will transfer at the end of the month.
Pushed to one side by Tottenham, the veteran spent nearly 12 years at the club, and Sandro, who was a Spurs player between 2010 and 2014, has criticised his former team for the way they treated their club icon in a video posted by beIN Sport.
He said: “Hugo was the face of Tottenham for many years. He was the captain. He’s a guy who arrived with a lot of humility. I remember his first training sessions. He won his spot discreetly. He has been very important for all these years where Tottenham reached the Champions League final and fought at the top of the Premier League.
When Pochettino arrived, he managed to give a new face to Tottenham, and he was a part of it. I was sad by the way he left. I think he should have been treated better, but sometimes Tottenham are a bit negligent when it comes to players leaving. For me Tottenham are a bit lax.”
Strong words from the Brazilian, who believes Lloris, regardless of whether or not he wanted to leave, should have had a better exit from a team where he gave everything for more than a decade.
He will now enjoy himself in the MLS, far from Tottenham and London, winding down his career in a league he will, in turn, help rise the profile of a bit more.
