After three games without a win in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur finally managed to get three points by thrashing Crystal Palace 4-0 on Saturday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side may now have shown signs of recovery in the race for the Premier League title, but there’s still someone in the squad who’s looking to prove himself.
Lucas Moura has been struggling to getting starts for the club this season, and in this weekend’s win, could only feature for the final five minutes of the game.
The player has spoken to Yahoo Brasil, and talked about this hard start to the season for him.
“I don’t say frustrating, I think it was a little difficult, just like the club’s. Every player wants to play. I’m fighting day to day, in training… I’m just waiting for my chance. The coach has to choose the 11 and we always have to respect,” Lucas Moura told Yahoo.
“As I said, the beginning was not as I imagined, we lost a few games. Anyway, I’m working, I have to respect the coach’s opinion, the competition is very big and he makes his choices… It’s not easy to choose only 11 to play. I have to respect and, when I have the opportunity, enjoy it so I can conquer my space.”
Lucas also claims that the big win against Crystal Palace wasn’t just a coincidence. He reveals Mauricio Pochettino had an important chat with the squad before the match.
“He did talk, yes. He always talks to us. What I can say is this time the content of the conversation was more encouraging, motivating, because the beginning of our season was different from last year, when we gained a lot more points. It was more to return with everything after the international break, to regain confidence. It worked, the team behaved a lot and I hope we will stay that way in the season.”
Tottenham now focus on the Champions League as they travel to Greece and face Olympiacos on Wednesday. After that, they visit the King Power Stadium to play Leicester City at the weekend.
