Brazilian outlet Esporte Interativo was at Old Trafford on Monday night to talk about Manchester United’s clash against Basaksehir in the Champions League.

Reporter Fred Caldeira had the chance to speak to fullback Rafael da Silva, who played for the Red Devils for many years and has a special feeling for this game.

“Very good stories I lived at this club. I appreciate all the messages I received in the first game and I have received since I left the club. My stay here was wonderful, honestly. I won titles and was very happy in England,” Rafael da Silva told Esporte Interativo.

Rafael da Silva joined Manchester United’s academy in a move from Fluminense back in 2008, and stayed at the Premier League side until 2015. He made 170 appearances for the club, where he won three Premier League titles.

Asked about how special it will be for him to play at Old Trafford again, Rafael said: “It’s already being. I’m even a little nervous to talk here. I don’t know why, it’s a great emotion to remember everything I went through here. When I enter the field sometimes I forget a lot of things, it’s not the same as when we are here talking. But it will definitely be a special moment in my career.”

Brazilians are used to talking about the ‘Ex Law’, which is the name they gave to the coincidence of players often scoring against their former sides. Fred Caldeira mentioned that to Rafael, who laughed and claimed he hopes that happens tonight.

“That’s true. That’s true. We will see. I hope. I hope it happens. Imagine scoring a goal here. I’m definitely not going to celebrate. I respect this club a lot.”

“I owe… I won’t say my whole career, because I also worked hard, but I owe much of my success to this club, so it’s an absolute respect.”
