Before appointing Ruben Selles as their manager until the end of the season, Southampton tried to hire a few others.
There was talk of Ivan Juric being approached after the sacking of Nathan Jones, but another name has now appeared, that of Domenico Tedesco.
The Italian manager was recently appointed as the successor of Roberto Martínez for the Belgium national team, but a few clubs came forward, including Southampton, according to Sud Info.
The outlet, relaying an interview the manager had with Kicker in Germany, reveal that Sevilla, Nice, Hoffenheim and the Saints all came forward to try and hire him as manager.
They then put his quote on refusing offers: “When I am contacted, and there is an interview, the clubs can be sure that nothing will leak out from my side. That’s why I don’t comment on names. I received offers and a few meetings, but in the end, everything has to fit together and I have the feeling that things can quickly improve.
“This was not the case. Money is not something that attracts me. I can say this with a clear conscience, and it also shows at many stages on my CV.”
Whether Tedesco was approached before or after Nathan Jones isn’t said, but Southampton appear to have made a move for him this year, having parted ways with two managers this season to date.
The Italian manager had been without a job since September 7th, when he was sacked by RB Leipzig after a 4-1 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk.
