Yunus Musah’s agent has revealed he had a vital role in convincing the midfielder and his family to leave Arsenal.
The 19-year-old spent seven years at the Gunners’ academy before leaving them for Valencia in 2019.
Arsenal made efforts to keep the player by offering him a new deal, and his family were open for Musah to extend his stay. However, his agent, Giacomo Guidolin, was against this idea.
“This was the first point where I really influenced: I convinced his family to make the right choice, I understood that this was the best project to get to the first team as soon as possible, due to his football characteristics, culture, the way of life there is in Spain,” the agent told Calciomercato.
“After Italy and England, in Spain I knew he would be great: there he could become devastating. The family wanted to keep him in England, it’s difficult to leave a youth team like that of Arsenal. Yunus took responsibility for this decision, guided by me and his brother, Abdul, always present, and wanted to go. He didn’t accept the Gunners’ contract and left for free.”
Guidolin was proved right when Musah made his debut for Los Ches’ first team in 2020. Since the start of the 2020/21 season, he has made 81 appearances in all competitions, out of which 71 were in La Liga.
The US national team midfielder’s deal expires in 2026 and Guidolin claims a fee of €30-40m is needed to take his client away from the Mestalla.
Pablo Longoria was in charge of the Spanish club when the teenager arrived at Valencia. The current Marseille president has detailed why Musah decided to leave Arsenal for the La Liga side.
“Why did he bet on Valencia? Due to his Latin character, he spoke Italian, he knew the culture.”
