When Newcastle United signed Yankuba Minteh from Odense, it was always going to be a transfer for the future after the 19-year-old arrived for €8m, and was swiftly sent to Feyenoord on loan the next day, where the hope would be for him to develop and then come back a better player.
Well, the Magpies couldn’t have really wished for a better start, as the player has appeared in every game so far, and even scored at the weekend in his 35 minute cameo against FC Utrecht in a 5-1 win.
The Newcastle loanee was quickly hounded by journalists after the game to get his reaction, with 1908.nl rounding up his comments, where he expressed his delight at finding the back of the net.
He said: “I am very happy with the match. I experienced many things, also during it. I’m very happy with my first goal for this great club Feyenoord. Yes, I am really very happy.”
As soon as his shot hit the back of the net, the Newcastle loanee went to the travelling Feyenoord fans to celebrate in front of them, showing just how important he feels this season can be for him and the respect he has for his current club.
He added: “It was my first goal and how they celebrated it was great. Great support from the fans, and I want to thank my teammate, because without them, I can’t score.”
Prior to his move to Newcastle, Minteh had only played a handful of games with Odense’s first team, but had made an instant impact, finding the back of the net four time and assisting another six in 17 appearances.
