With the Qatar World Cup right around the corner, various players are giving press conferences ahead of the competition, with Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris sitting down in front of the media for France on Monday.
Arriving at Clairefontaine before flying off to prepare the competition, the Spurs captain was asked a series of questions, including the potential wearing of a rainbow coloured captain’s armband during the tournament.
That is something the Tottenham player wasn’t prepared to immediately answer, suggesting that while something was being planned, various permissions needed to be granted first.
He said, relayed by L’Equipe: “Before undertaking things, you need the agreement of FIFA, the agreement of the FA. Afterwards, on the subject, of course, I have my personal opinion, and it joins a little bit with that of President Noël Le Graet.
“When we are in France, when we welcome foreigners, we often want them to comply with our rules, to respect our cultures, and I will do the same when I go to Qatar, quite simply. After that, I can agree or not with their ideas, but I have to show respect of that.”
No decision appears to have been finalised just yet, and we’ll have to wait and see what the France national team and other countries decide to do.
At club level, Hugo Lloris has made 21 appearances for Tottenham since the start of the season, conceding 27 goals and keeping six clean sheets.
Spurs’ form hasn’t been the best ahead of the break, and there will be many in France who will be hoping the goalkeeper can put all that behind him as his national team prepare to defend their trophy.
