Tottenham Hotspur made an attempt to sign Zenit striker Sardar Azmoun this summer, according to the player himself.
The player was interviewed by Iranian outlet Footballi, and commented on his transfer situation, claiming several clubs were after him this transfer window.
He says the Russian side turned down all the offers, and the only way to move would be at the end of his contract, which expires in June 2022.
“I have a contract. Even if I wanted to leave, Zenit can prevent me & there is nothing I can do,” Azmoun told Fooballi (via Persian Soccer on Twitter).
“I had offers from Tottenham, Lyon, Bayer Leverkusen & Roma but they rejected them. If I leave, it will be this summer as a free agent.”
Azmoun had a good season with Zenit, with 19 goals and six assists in 29 appearances. That’s why he got linked to several clubs, including Tottenham, who were looking at Harry Kane alternatives, this summer.
Now in what could be his last year at the Russian side, the striker has already managed to score six goals in only seven games.
That’s probably a sign that he’ll continue doing well for his club, and the race for his free move should only grow.
