Club América manager Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz has insisted he knows nothing about a potential move for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raúl Jiménez.
Jiménez has been linked with a move away from Wolves, with a recent report indicating that Julen Lopetegui has given his okay to a potential departure.
That news came after a report earlier this month that stated he could be set to return to Mexico with Club América.
That report claimed that initial contacts had already been held between the two parties and was followed by claims that Jiménez already had a foot and a half outside of Wolves.
There’s been little mention of the potential switch since then but it remains something of a topic in Mexico, where Jiménez is a household name.
That saw manager Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz asked about the situation in a press conference following a recent defeat to Cruz Azul in the Sky Cup.
Soy Referee explain that Ortiz said that the board, who are headed by Santiago Baños, are the ones who ‘see to the question of reinforcements’ so he does not know if ‘there was any approach with the striker’.
The Argentine coach then assured that “about Raúl (Jiménez), I have no idea, that’s the real thing. There is no other answer (about his possible signing).”
“Until the transfer window closes, anything can happen and the board knows what I think. Let’s wait and see what happens, but I’m happy with the squad I have,” he added.
It seems, then, that if the Wolves striker is on the move then the Club América manager is unaware of it at this point, and any transfer certainly isn’t in the advanced stages.
