Departed Aston Villa director of football Monchi has insisted he’s delighted to be heading back to Spain. As first, his stated plan is to focus 100% on his hometown club CD San Fernandos 1940.
With this in mind, Cadena SER cover comments from Monchi today. The departed director held a press conference at the Spanish club following his Aston Villa exit.
Monchi’s public exit reason is to devote himself to the hometown club he rescued from oblivion this summer. Given that, he’s putting on a delighted persona.
The Spaniard is at the head of a new consortium which has taken over the club. Reviving them with their current name whilst competing in the third tier of the Andalusian football pyramid.
It had been expected he’d share duties with them and Aston Villa. To help that he’d put his son in charge while he was in Birmingham but they will now work together.
Now, though, he is free to commit himself to the club fully, having agreed an amicable departure from Aston Villa. They, in turn, have already appointed Roberto Olabe as his replacement.
Monchi insists script for Aston Villa exit is perfect
And Monchi has now insisted that he couldn’t have written the script better himself.
“It’s a solution. I’m a person who’s been non-stop for 38 years. Yesterday was my first day unemployed,” he said.
“The San Fernando is a motivation for the rest of my life. This summer I have become very involved with my city. To do this, to create the club, I have had the Help of the City of San Fernando. I have been lucky enough to surround myself with a magnificent group of teammates.
“To burn that adrenaline I have on a day-to-day basis, I needed this. If I had designed a script then it would have been this.
“My only illusion, my only obsession, my only motivation, my only dedication, is the San Fernando Sports Club. I want to devote all the time possible to the club.
“From the first day this project must go parallel to the category in which it is and respond to the illusion that has been created in the city. I would find it disrespectful, not 100% involved in the project.”
