Former Wolverhampton Wanderers players Fernando Marçal and Francisco Trincão are today highlighted in the Portuguese media.
It’s newspaper A Bola who feature a story with quotes from the Brazilian player, who now plays for Botafogo and has been recalling his time at Molineux.
Marçal had been speaking of Trincão, praising the qualities of his former teammate and claiming he should continue doing well at Sporting.
“He’s exceptional. He’s one of those footballers who can decide a game at any time, with whom you can win championships. He decides a game at any time and can be the star of the team without a doubt,” said Marçal.
“Already adapted to Sporting, to working with Ruben, I’m sure that next season he will be more in tune and will bring much joy to the supporters.”
The Brazilian ended up revealing that when the two were still at Wolves, Sporting boss Ruben Amorim had already started the work to get him signed.
“He needs trust and attention and I’ve noticed that Ruben has given that. I might even be talking too much, but at the end of the season, still at Wolves, he told me that Ruben had called him, talked to him, and that he was counting on him. This coach’s care started before he arrived at Sporting. That was very much why he made the decision to return to Portugal. He will make a difference next season, he already did this season, but he can give much more.”
Trincão spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Wolves, where he made 30 appearances and only had three goals and one assist.
With the Molineux side deciding not to sign him, he returned to Barcelona and the Camp Nou club agreed this deal with Sporting, where he’s loaned for this season and will then be bought by the Portuguese giants for €7m.
Marçal, who in two seasons for Wolves only had 32 appearances for the club, also said he’s a fan of Trincão, claiming he learned to admire him during their time in England.
“Trincão is above all an unusual person off-field. I would venture to say he was the most polite player I ever played with. I’m a fan of his on and off the field.”
