Renato Veiga left Chelsea to join Villarreal permanently in the summer transfer window.
The defender spent the second-half of last season on loan at Juventus. The Italian club tried their best to re-sign him but finances proved a challenge.
On Wednesday, Veiga scored a late equaliser against the Old Lady for Villarreal. That stung for Juve, and then it got worse. He celebrated the goal quite emotionally, which didn’t go down well with fans of the Turin club.
The arrival from Chelsea spoke to Sky Italia after the match and clarified his emotions about the Bianconeri.
He said, relayed by TuttoSport: “That’s just me, I live the game intensely. There’s no disrespect, because Juve has given me so much.
“I spent a short period of my career there, but it was great, so I want to tell all Juventus fans that I wasn’t disrespectful to anyone in the way I celebrated: I just live football very intensely.”
Speaking further about Juve, Veiga said: “I love them all, they’ve told me they love me too. Juve is a team with great players, but above all great men: they will always have a place in my heart.”
It is easy to see why Veiga celebrated, considering it was a 90th minute equaliser.
The 22-year-old has done well for Villarreal so far this season. He he’s played every game in the campaign, establishing himself as a regular at centre-back.
The way things are going, his exit may turn out to be a regret for Chelsea. The Portugal international was only given 176 minutes in the Premier League last season.
