Wolverhampton Wanderers initially signed Raúl Jiménez from Benfica on loan in 2018 and his stay at Molineux was made permanent a year later.
The Mexico international arrived in Europe in 2014, when Atlético Madrid signed him from Club América. A year later, the La Liga side sold him to the Eagles.
Jiménez struggled to shine for Benfica, which resulted in a move to Wolves in 2018. The striker’s failure to impress at both Atlético and the Portuguese club had convinced a Mexican club to bring him back to the country. This was before he moved to the Premier League.
Former Chivas and Mexico director, Néstor de la Torre, appeared as a guest on ESPN’s podcast, Voces en el Desierto. When talking about the Wolves player, he shared an insight into the efforts made to sign the 31-year-old for his old club.
“I really liked Raúl, but I don’t know how he is physically, but I liked him,” De la Torre said.
“When he hardly played in Europe, I insisted that Chivas should bring him because there was no centre forward with those characteristics, he is a good person, he goes well up front, he has strength, he puts his body in, he is not a trunk, he is a player who has many virtues as a centre forward.”
His comments are relayed by El10.com and they state De la Torre tried signing the current Wolves star for Chivas in 2015.
