On Tuesday, a piece emerged in Spain claiming that Manchester United, in dire need of reinforcements, were targeting Real Madrid’s Casemiro.

The Brazilian has been an instrumental piece of the La Liga side’s success in Spain and Europe in recent years, including in their recent UEFA Super Cup win over Eintracht Frankfurt, during which he provided an assist for David Alaba’s opener.

However, he wasn’t a starter for the first game of the season against Almería, instead coming on for the final seven minutes of the game, as Carlo Ancelotti opted for the younger legs of Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni in midfield.

It’s no secret the Frenchman is widely seen as the long-term replacement for the Brazil international, and while Casemiro will still play a fair amount under Carlo Ancelotti, he might see his time gradually reduced as time goes on.

That’s why a move to Manchester United could make sense for him, since he would walk into the first-team when taking into account the competition he would face.

This is what El Chiringuito panelist Alfredo Duro was arguing on their Twitch stream on Wednesday, when asked if the Brazilian should agree to the move to Old Trafford.

The main point of his argument in favour of the transfer is that Casemiro has basically won all he can in Madrid, and the offer of playing in the Premier League would be a great chance to discover something new for the defensive midfielder.

He said: “I would go to Manchester, but I would go with the gratitude of Real Madrid, the fanbase, of everyone (…) I support Liverpool, but I understand that Manchester United are a historical club, so why would you take away from him the chance of being one of the pillars of Manchester United’s resurrection? If I were him, I would go.”

That, however, wasn’t the view of Manu Sainz, who also made an appearance on the show, who made it clear that Casemiro should be going nowhere near Old Trafford.

He said, speaking from the perspective of the Brazilian: “I’m 30, I’m at this point in my career, I would not go to Manchester United for all the money in the world. I’m at Real Madrid.”

In essence, he makes it clear that this isn’t the time for Casemiro to try something new, especially at Manchester United, regardless of how much money they decide to throw at him as the conditions simply wouldn’t be the same to succeed.
