At the end of last week, we saw the Argentine media reported Chelsea star Enzo Fernández had started muscle mobility exercises.
The midfielder, who’s been out with a groin injury, has been sidelined for a few weeks, and there’s been some concern in Argentina about his place in the Copa America.
Fernández was now interviewed by D Sports in his home country, and TyC Sports feature some of his quotes about his recovery.
“I spent eight months playing with pain and injections. I had to take the decision to have surgery, it was the best thing to do. I was hurting the team and I didn’t want to expose myself,” said Fernández.
“I’ve started training in the field, my recovery is advanced and I hope to be training with the national team soon at the training centre.”
With Mauricio Pochettino previously claiming that using the midfielder would not be good for the player or the club, the 23-year-old now explained the situation.
Argentina play their first game in Copa America on June 20th. They’re in Group A with Peru, Chile and Canada.
Enzo Fernandez had a unique experience with the national team, as he made his debut months before the World Cup and won the tournament in Qatar. It’s only now that he’ll have his first chance to play in a Copa America, and seems to be doing his best to be fit for the tournament.
