While West Ham United managed to offload Saïd Benrahma to Lyon for the rest of the season, there is no guarantee the Ligue 1 side will make the move permanent.
They have the chance to do so thanks to an option to buy, but a lot will rest on whether the winger impresses enough between now and the end of the season.
The West Ham loanee is currently with the Algeria national team for the international break, and, as revealed by the man himself in quotes relayed by L’Expression, he’s currently injured.
It’s nothing overly worrying, but he has made it clear that he will not be able to take part in his country’s first game, but should be back for the second.
It will be a bit of a relief, as anything more serious may have put a future transfer away from West Ham in jeopardy, as he wouldn’t have had enough time to impress.
He said: “I hurt myself a little during a league match in France. Now I’m trying to get back to running. I’m working and I’m doing my best, but I have to say that I’m recovering bit by bit. I shouldn’t be fit for the first match, but I should be for the second against South Africa.”
A key figure under David Moyes last season, the 28-year-old struggled for game time at West Ham during the first half of the season, mostly because of the purchase of Mohammed Kudus.
He had made 22 appearances for the Hammers prior to his move to Lyon, where he has since scored one goal in six appearances.
