Maxi Araujo scored for Sporting against Manchester City last week, starring in the Portuguese side’s 4-1 win over the English champions in the UEFA Champions League.
The wing-back has been called up to the Uruguayan national team this week and has spoken to the local press about his situation at Sporting.
The 24-year-old was asked whether he would be interested in a move to Manchester City to ply his trade under Pep Guardiola.
He said, as relayed by O Jogo: “I hope so, I hope so… I asked him for a photo, we talked for a few minutes and he congratulated me. I’m very happy about that. We talked about the game, nothing more.”
Araujo has been a regular for Uruguay under Marcelo Bielsa and his profile has certainly risen since he arrived at Sporting from Toluca in the summer.
He has also been a key player for his club, increasingly the pick for left wingback.
It is quite clear that he would be interested in a Manchester City move at some point in the future. Araujo has to keep performing the way he is for a potential switch to the Etihad to materialise in the future.
