FC Utrecht youngster Adrian Blake has revealed he wants to join Arsenal at some point in his career after turning down a Premier League move this summer.
The left winger has been speaking to NOS about his career so far and his plans for the future, which could include Arsenal, after leaving England for the Netherlands this year.
He’s joined FC Utrecht on a free transfer from Watford as he looks to give his career a kickstart and secure regular playing time.
He’s so far only managed three appearances for Watford’s senior team and five for the Under 18s, as well as featuring in England’s U18 squad.
There had been Premier League interest in him despite that, but he’s instead elected to head out somewhere else, in this case the Eredivisie.
That’s proven to be a breeding ground for young talent in recent years and it seems Blake is hoping for a similar outcome, as he has ambitions to play for Arsenal in future.
“There was interest in me from the Premier League, but I would not get any opportunities in a first team there,” he said.
“I will get them at Utrecht. The club has mapped out a trajectory for me and I have chosen change.
“I am a winner and I want to entertain people. Many football players have made a name for themselves here, such as Noni Madueke. The choice to come to Utrecht was therefore a no-brainer for me.”
“I hope to play for Arsenal one day. I know Dennis Bergkamp, of course. He was a fantastic player. Everyone remembers that goal against Newcastle United.”
