Last summer, Celtic let Luis Palma join Lech Poznań on loan with an option to buy. Wilfried Nancy reportedly looked at the possibility of bringing him back to Celtic Park in January. The Bhoys showed him the exit door in January and appointed Martin O’Neill as the coach until the end of the season.

Sport Witness had relayed Polish claims that Lech Poznań weren’t concerned about losing the 26-year-old in the winter market.

At the weekend, the Celtic owned player came off the bench in the Polish club’s 3-0 win over Piast Gliwice. After the match, he spoke to Canal+ Sport and WP SportoweFakty have relayed his comments.

Substitute role for Celtic man in 2026

The Honduras international has scored six goals and contributed seven assists from 29 matches for Lech Poznań so far.

He hasn’t managed a goal or an assist in this calendar year as Lech Poznań manager Niels Frederiksen mainly utilised him as a substitute. The Celtic man talked about his reserved role in recent weeks.

“It’s the coach’s decision. I focus on the team. If we win, everything goes according to plan. I’m trying hard to get back into the starting lineup, but that’s football. I’ll keep working hard,” he said.

Clear future ambition for Palma

The Polish club have agreed a €4m purchase option with O’Neill’s side as part of the loan deal. Two months ago, Sport Witness covered Polish claims of Lech Poznań’s unhappiness towards the Celtic man’s recent performances, which could impact his chances of staying beyond this season.

On December 22nd, we covered another claim from Poland of O’Neill’s side refusing to lower the buying option below €4m.

If it were down to the Honduran, he will extend his stay with Lech Poznań for long and made it clear to Canal+ Sport.

When asked about his future, Palma explained: “I hope to stay at Lech for a long time, but it’s not just my decision. I’m doing my thing day by day, and I’m very happy about it. I’m sticking to that and I hope to stay at this great club, although not everything depends on me.”
