Anderlecht rising star Nathan de Cat has played down the chance of him joining Tottenham Hotspur or Aston Villa in the January transfer window.
Nieuwsblad cover comments from the 17-year-old today. He was asked about a potential exit from the Belgian club next month.
A report at the end of November stated that Aston Villa, Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur were all looking at the young midfielder.
It was explained that the Premier League trio are ‘keeping tabs’ on the youngster, who has been earning admirers after making his way into the first team earlier this year. The report indicated a €35m transfer fee was being touted, but €20-25m was more reasonable.
Anderlecht had no interest in selling De Cat at this point. In fact, they’re hoping to keep him until at least 2027 when his current contract expires. Of course, Aston Villa, Brighton and Tottenham making serious moves could change that.
It seems, though, that they may have to convince the youngster. He’s made it clear that he has no intention of moving anywhere in the January transfer window.
“I have no intention of leaving in the winter,” he said.
“I’m not personally concerned with the interested clubs, nor with that contract extension. My parents are looking into that and are keeping me well away from it.
“A career plan? I’m not the type to think I have to achieve this or that within a year or so. My only concern is getting better every day, always raising the bar.
“My role models are Declan Rice of Arsenal and Rodri of Man City. To reach that level, I have to work hard. Again: the only thing that matters is the next match.”
