Italian coach Stefano Cusin has insisted his move to Wolverhampton Wanderers alongside Walter Zenga was the right one for him, just at the wrong time.
Cusin has been speaking to Sport Italia regarding his career, which has seen him manage all over the world, quite literally.
With teams under his belt such as New England, Steaua Bucharest, Gaziantepspor and Al-Nassr, the Italian has been something of a globe trotter.
2016 saw him land at Wolves, where he arrived to replace Kenny Jackett, a move that saw him take Cusin as part of his coaching team.
Zenga would last just 17 games, though, with a record of six wins, four draws and seven defeats meaning he was quickly dismissed, a run of four defeats in his last five games enough to see Wolves decide enough was enough.
His time in charge at the club is not remembered with any particular fondness but it seems he looks back on the matter differently, detailing how he ended up at the club and why it was just a case of bad timing.
“I remember everything. I was about to go on holiday, and he called me: ‘We have to be in London tomorrow’,” he said.
“’Are you joking?’ – I replied. ‘No, we have to be there at 7, I’ve signed for Wolves.’
“Away win against Benítez’s Newcastle who were then promoted to the Premier League. Wonderful place, but we arrived at the right place at the wrong time. The presidency had recently bought too many new players all together with training done by another coach.”
