Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Justin Hubner is today featured in an interesting series that Voetbal International is now publishing.
The outlet is having conducting with players who have Dutch nationality but are playing at the Asian Cup or AFCON for other nations.
Hubner is one of them, as despite being born in the Netherlands, he has an Indonesian passport and is now featuring for them.
The Wolves defender explained that his life changed since he chose to play for the Asian country, as he’s highly appreciated at the national team.
“I regularly get things sent to me, especially in Indonesia. Sometimes it’s a card that says: ‘I love you so much’. I also get a lot of flowers from people. Those are strange things to experience,” Justin Hubner told Voetbal International.
Hubner recalled that he struggled a little when he first joined Wolves, but is now fully adapted and actually enjoying his time at the Premier League side.
“In the beginning I suffered quite a lot from homesickness. I found it especially difficult to keep saying goodbye to my family, knowing that I would not see them for weeks or months afterwards.
“For example, during corona times I only saw my family once every six months at a certain point. Now that I’m older, things are going much better, and I’m actually having a great time.”
Hubner arrived at Wolves’ academy back in 2020, in a move from Den Bosch, and hasn’t had a chance to play for the club’s first team yet.
Still, he was taken to the bench in a Premier League match this season, so perhaps his debut will arrive soon, especially if they like his performances in the Asian Cup.
Indonesia fans love him either way.
