In the summer transfer window, Celtic were linked with a move for Cagliari’s Adam Obert.
Unione Sardia reportedBrendan Rodgers’ side put a figure forward to land the defender. The approach was rejected but the outlet believed that a sale could’ve gone through for the right amount.
Obert has now spoken to Tuttomercatoweb about his life in Sardinia, after Celtic’s interest in the summer.
The Slovakian revealed that he feels at home at Cagliari, and it doesn’t sound like he’s pining for Brendan Rodgers and Glasgow.
“Four years ago, I made the decision to move to Cagliari with full knowledge of the facts. Three other clubs were interested in me, but the club’s desire to have me convinced me to sign for this club.”
Further, he said: “I feel at home in this beautiful city. Our fans are amazing, and I feel very connected to this place now that I’m in my fifth year.”
Speaking of his personal goals, the 23-year-old said: “I want to play consistently, grow, and prove my worth. Achieving these goals depends entirely on me.”
Obert has often been compared to Slovakia international Milan Skriniar. When asked about it, he said: “I’ve admired Milan immensely, ever since he played for Sampdoria. The year I arrived, however, he moved to Inter, and even the first time I was called up to the national team, it was wonderful to train alongside him.”
“I learned so much from him and I’m sure I’ll learn new things every time I’m with him, given his experience.”
The centre-back has clearly grown in stature this season, which may encourage Celtic further..
He’s started six Serie A games for Cagliari, emerging as a leader at the back. Last season, he played only 21 times in the league. Everything indicates that he will play more often in the ongoing campaign.
It will not be a surprise to see bigger clubs in Italy come calling for the defender, making things harder for Celtic.
